Futuro do Subjuntivo
Welcome to the land of Future Subjunctive, the tense that appears whenever your brain decides to criar cenários catastróficos que nunca vão acontecer — mas que você insiste em considerar.
This tense is used when we talk about future conditions, the famous “If/When this happens…” moments. You know, those thoughts like:
“If my boss arrives early, I’m doomed.”
“When the Wi-Fi returns, maybe I’ll be human again.”
Here you’ll learn how to form it, when to use it, and how to sound like a truly dramatic Portuguese speaker predicting a future cheio de paranoia, suspense e possíveis tragédias inventadas na sua cabeça.
In English:
Use the Future Subjunctive when the action is in the future and uncertain — which is basically every day of your life. We’ll explore structure, usage, and examples from highly stressed fictional characters who clearly need therapy but decided to star in this course instead.
If something might happen, even if the odds are 0.0001%, this tense jumps out screaming:
“SE isso acontecer, boa sorte pra você.”
Enjoy the chaos. Learn the tense.
And remember:
If your life gets too peaceful… the Future Subjunctive will find you.
